Child Rights Advocacy
SUTCHI works to ensure that all children access their rights to survival, development, protection and participation. Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world, with many people struggling to survive and provide the necessities for their families. Most children’s rights are a long way from being fulfilled.
The high population growth rate of 3.4% per year (the third highest in the world) poses a significant challenge in reducing poverty and inequality. With over 2,000,000 child orphans and the impact of HIV/AIDS on many households, social protection for the chronic poor is not given sufficient high priority in national programs.
We advocate for the rights of children through awareness and sensitization campaigns using the media. In Uganda many people including parents/guardians are ignorant of children’s rights.
Many times, children’s rights have been severely violated not because their guardians are wicked but because they are not aware that they are infringing on their children’s rights. We strive to reduce/eliminate such situations through informing and educating the adults and children as well as advocating children’s rights.
